III - What are my responsibilities?

Considering one's usage of the network on campus, the individual is responsible for the account and applications thereby provided. Users must responsibly monitor their own access and activities on the network. Security is, as always, a prevalent issue-- not necessarily simply regarding the password. Access to your personal devices, including but not limited to laptops, desktops, PDAs, ports, etc., should be limited to yourself and others approved by the University of Central Florida. Any and all communications sent from your equipment or accounts is your liability.

One's account cannot be overlooked when considering these such security precautions. Computer Services has gone to great lengths to provide users of the campus network with a decent balance of security and ease-of-use; this access, however, must thereby be used responsibly and securely by the user: if a breach of policy is performed from your workstation or using your account on any campus system, you are responsible. One availability to hostile influence to our network, whether it be a file, account, or physical workstation, can be troublesome to the entire network.

E-mail on campus also brings with it a range of necessary precautions-- it is, of course, primarily to be used as an academic resource and means of communication among peers for information transfer. Ethics and responsibility come strongly into play in this field of Information Technology; Computer Services urges users to be courteous and intelligent with their application of this useful resource.

Any e-mail message sent anywhere inside or outside of the network must be considered to be of the same level of tangibility as would be any physical document or verbal statement. Misrepresentation of an individual or breach of campus policy concerning e-mail and network security are not tolerated. As your personal e-mail must be administered by you with care, also note that the e-mail of others must be responsibly cared for.

We at Computer Services ask that you apply a decent set of ethical standards to the usage of the network.
