Rules of the Road VI
- What is not against law or policy (Spam)?
Some network activities may seem as if
they are of the nature that they should be disallowed
by the University or the State. One must consider the
following before any report of network misuse or
abuse is given to Computer Services/Network Operations.
The First Amendment to
the Constitution of the United States explicitly protects
free speech in this country. Opinions may differ and
discussions may be heated, but one must be certain that
one's rights have been violated in some way before it
becomes an issue to which Computer Services need apply
consideration. Being insulted, though unsettling as it may
be, is not a breach of the First Amendment.
Spam, though prohibited
from inside the University, often can and will reach your
mailbox. This, of course, is against the policy of UCF--
it cannot, however, be completely controlled. When deemed
necessary, Computer Services will take certain measures to
block serious Spam violators. As we apply certain
procedures and rules to the users of our network, the same
is done by any other internet service provider. It is up
to that provider to concern itself with any user
performing a Spam operation. You may, of course, notify
their system administrators of this Spam.
